The hotel is beautifully situated on Lake Ashi, right beside Hakone Shrine and the Tori gate out in the lake. The hotel runs a shuttle bus from the nearby transpot hub on the banks of the lake, where buses to and from Odawara as well as the sightseeing cruise ships can be boarded. The hotel was also extremely clean and well presented. Our room was spacious and comfortable.

It’s pretty close to the main train station. The (restaurant) staff was pleasant. We enjoyed the onsite onsen. The town shut down early, so it was convenient having the Box Burger right there.
Pro-tip - Five minutes away is a cute shrine “Hien Waterfall” that should be visited.

The highlights of Hakone for me were the old Tokaido Road, the shrine at Motohakone, the Edo era checking station and the Onshi Hakone Park. There are so many other attractions in Hakone which I didn’t have the chance to see. The 3 day Hakone pass is a must.

It’s a beautiful spot to visit.
It’s a beautiful spot to visit. I recommend 2-3 days to really experience and explore. I got the Hakone free pass and made my way around the loop over 2 days and the scenery was breathtaking, an extra day would have allowed deeper relaxation and extra exploring.
Definitely explore the shrines around the lake and try and get to an Onsen while you are there. I did find it tricky to find tattoo cover patches, so possibly worth looking into before travelling to Hakone if you need to cover up.

Beautiful nature and atmosphere.
Beautiful nature and atmosphere. The trip to Lake Ashimoto was lovely and the scenery impressive. The highlight of our stay in Hakone was dipping in the local onsens, we loved the experience and the feeling of relaxation after a bath. We ate at different local restaurants, mostly found via map apps, which made great food at reasonable prices. We used the Hakone Pass to get around using trains, cable cars and the ropeway, all very convenient and easy to use. We could have used a couple extra days to visit some of the attractions in the area, that we did not have enough time to enjoy.

One of the highlights of our trip to Japan was visiting Hakone. We would wholeheartedly recommend staying in Gora and doing the loop up to the mountain and then on the sightseeing boat. The Hakone Free-Pass offers great value for money.
The Hakone Open Air Museum and Gora Park Crafthouse were amazing
Hotel is about 13 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto Station; a quite steep walk but still manageable and you get to enjoy the scenery along the way. My family and I really enjoyed the stay. The service was exceptional, the meals included are delicious. (I was worried about the portion might be too small, but it turned out to be very satisfying, even the kid meals are very thoughtful) the room is spacious, clean and has a private onsen! Also the futon bed is comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.
The room (family room with tatami area) is generously spacious, with an amazing onsen facility next door. I love that guests can change into traditional outfits and walk around the hotel wearing them. The staffs are helpful and kind.
I am grateful to one of the reviewers here who mentioned that the hotel is accessible from Hotel Okada via an elevator. This saved us from having to walk up the steep hill every time we wanted to go to and from the hotel.
The shuttle to Hakone Yumoto station was also a great addition.
It was an amazing stay at Yuyado Zen, two nights were perfect as we get to spend time exploring Hakone and also fully enjoy the onsen stay. It is near to Ubako Station where you can ride the ropeway to attractions like Owakudani and Lake Ashi. Hotel staffs were very helpful with directions and offer free pickup/drop off to bus station. The food and hospitality were just amazing, probably the best meals we had in Japan! The room was very well maintained, clean and spacious as well. Highly recommend!
Pretty hotel, with a nice view of lake Ashi (when the skies are clear). Very nice public onsen with good amenities- like skin care, hair care and dyson hair dryer, and a foot onsen outsiders with the view of the lake. Food was nice as well, large buffet with western and Japanese food. Also a yukata stand near the elevator with a range of sizes and prints that you can choose from. Free shuttle to and from Odawara station which was very helpful considering it's not so easy to get to the hotel.
We had a room overlooking the lake and on the 2nd day we could see Mt Fuji right in front of us- amazing!
We arrived at Hakone train station and then started the loop. Unfortunately, due to strong winds gondola and boats were suspended, but we were able to get to the hotel by bus. It must be really nice to arrive by gondola and later boat
Boats start right next to the hotel, so we were able to take the first boat the bext day at 9:30 am.
Welcome drinks
Onsen with two different baths each
Staff and service were great!
Was able to drop off luggage before checkin (11am) so we can sightsee, and we were able to schedule our dinner time, breakfast time and book a private onsen (45mins) during our 1- night stay with a relaxing river and mountain view; the public onsens were wonderful, too!
Large, spacious room w/ bath & toilet.
Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were delicious.
Excellent location! Only 3mins from the Hakone-Yumoto Sta. with lots of shops and restaurants around.
I loved the dinner and breakfast menus. Each time it was different, and I loved each set.
It was a bit hard to get to, but at the same time that's also made it great as you can easily relax, away from touristy spots. The bus stop is almost in front of the hotel, so it's not bad, but it will take about an hour to get from Odawara Station to the hotel by bus.
It's close to Lake Ashi (one bus ride away), so if you need to go sightseeing (Hakone Cruise), it's not to far.
While the location of this ryokan is not so convenient(we went there by Odakyu bus from Shinjuku, but there was a pickup service from hotel to nearest bus stop “Plaza hotel Mae”), my mom and I had a great time in their onsen with good food and the best facilities. All staff are well trained and very polite, every single thing they put in the room was delightful and thoughtful. It was worth to spend my vacation. I would like to go back again when I have a chance!!
Mt Fuji peaking through the clouds was seen through the hotel room window, with the hotel located in a quiet forest spot, it's on the list for a must visit next time we stay in Hakone. From the generous variety at the buffet, to the well equipped onsen bathhouse, it was truly a wonderful stay. The futon beds were easy to arrange ourselves, super warm even on a cold night. They've even got fairy lights out in the garden at night with great photo locations.
This is a wonderful ryokan with a natural spring onsen. The owner is SO incredibly friendly and welcoming. He is a pleasure to talk to, and he helped me with directions and planning. My room, the restroom, onsen, etc, were very clean. I enjoyed the ability to change the color of the lights in my room, itcreated a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere. I wish that I could have stayed longer. The location is great for easy access to onsen and the Hakone Loop.
Most of all I love to sleep in tatami beds. The great location and beautiful view and the onsen was nice too. The personnel were great and the dinner and breakfast traditional Japanese which we really appreciated. The hotel were close to Lake Ashi and ferries and buses. 5 minutes walk from the hotel was a possible view of Mt. Fuji-san and we were lucky to see it with a blue sky one morning. Thank you for our pleasent stay.
a wonderful ryokan in traditional Japanese style, incredible breakfasts and dinners that will delight you! very friendly hosts, cozy room. I had a room with a private onsen and it was a great stay. The hotel also has a shared onsen, but I found the water in it hotter than in the private one. The rooms have everything you need; they provide slippers, yukatas, bathrobes, and socks. the appearance of ryokan is great
The accommodation was in a good location right next to the train station for transport to arrive into Hakone and to get buses to Lake Ashi/Mt Kintoki area, for restaurants an shops. The beds were mats on the floor and were very comfortable. We used the onsen during our stay which was a lovely experience. We recommend a stay here. The staff were very helpful and kind.
Love the location near Hakone Yumoto train station, cute part of the town with no hills! Only three rooms so no wait for onsen and no extra charges! My son ended up using it twice! Futon bed was comfortable. Peaceful sleep with sound of mountain water. Love the traditional Japanese style and simple decor!
Pretty awesome onsen experience. Very good price for hotels with private onsen and no need to worry about your privacy. The room is large and comfortable. The traditional breakfast is also a must-try. All the staff are really nice and helpful. The location is also great with restaurants and museums nearby.
This Ryokan is perfect: good value, convenient location (bus stop is just two steps to the hotel), staff is knowledgeable, friendly and courteous, 24 hrs onsen access. Our rooms are large, clean and have window view to the mountain. Food is excellent. This Ryokan is highly recommended.
Great stay in a hotel focused on providing the Japanese Onsen and Kaizeki experience. The Onsen with lake and Mt Fuji view is really amazing, as well as with the whole experience of wearing the yukata throughout your stay.
Excellent breakfast, both western and Japanese styles available. Very nice and helpful staff in the restaurant who can speak Chinese. Nice onsen. 10 mins drive to Lake Ashi and Ōwakudani.
Hakone is a traditional hotel with an Excellent restaurant with exceptional dinners and an Onsen that is inside and outside..the grounds are with a beautiful sitting area ..
